Training

To provide innovative and creative training opportunities in order to enhance departmental knowledge while always meeting the Department’s needs.

As a Training Unit we recognize that every section of the department will have different needs and goals, we will make every effort to accommodate every sector of the department. The understanding that every participant (staff member, stakeholder, etc.) has an equal opportunity to make the most of their training experience through collaboration, technology, freedom of speech and equal access. The Training Unit will maintain and update pertinent/effective training courses, policy & procedure and methods of instruction. Training and Development is an ongoing process. In a pandemic, this has led to a constant evolution in training methods and tools. As such, the El Paso County Juvenile Justice Training Unit is committed to constantly evolving and improving the efficiency of our training and development programs.

The El Paso County Juvenile Justice Center’s Training Unit is relentless in its dedication to providing the best training experience for all staff attending trainings. We work as one to achieve.

Training is what we do, but Relentless is what we are!

Responsibilities:

  1. Maintain staff’s certifications.
  2. Provide all necessary trainings for all staff according to TJJD/Departmental Standards.
  3. Establish a fluid training routine and schedule, allowing all employees to receive training.
  4. Maintain detailed records of accumulated training hours for each employee.
  5. Submit necessary documentation to the Texas Juvenile Justice Department for statutory certification of all newly appointed officers and for re-certification of all experienced officers.
  6. Develop and maintain a professional training and curriculum library utilized by staff and trainers.
  7. Responsible for ensuring department units are in compliance with TJJD standards by developing and updating training unit policy and procedure.
  8. Responsible for developing a training monitoring system and updating the Department's triaining curriculums.
  9. Organizes, administers and/or conducts orientation program for all new department staff.
  10. Collaborates with Department supervisors and administrators to develop needs assessment tools and prioritize training requirements and requests.
  11. Collaborate with licensed professionals, external agencies and education institutions to identify training resources and programs.
